چکیده

Diabetic retinopathy is the most common diabetic eye disease and a leading cause of blindness in industrialized countries. For example, several studies have provided data of its prevalence in several countries like Spain (values between 44.7% and 26.11% depending on the area and the type of diabetes) Fernandez-Vigo et al. (1993); RA et al. (2010), Australia (overall 15.3% of patients with diabetes had retinopathy) Tapp et al. (2003) or USA (40.3% crude prevalence among diabetic patients) Kempen et al. (2004). Moreover, several worlwide programs like the Aravind Eye Care System (http://www.aravind.org/Default.aspx) promote the sharing of knowlege and resources to avoid blindness, like the caused by diabetic retinopathy.

Performance Evaluation of Different Methods for Detection of Hemorrhage Using Fundus Images

Image processing of a fundus image is performed for the early recognition of diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy classified in two stages. First is non-proliferative which includes microanearism and when blood vessels are leak and it comes into proliferative stage which is called hemorrhage. In this paper I discussed about detection of hemorrhage in diabetic retinopathy. extraction of he...

Early Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy in Fluorescent Angiography Retinal Images Using Image Processing Methods

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the single largest cause of sight loss and blindness in the working age population of Western countries; it is the most common cause of blindness in adults between 20 and 60 years of age. Early diagnosis of DR is critical for preventing vision loss so early detection of microaneurysms (MAs) as the first signs of DR is important. This paper addresses th...

Automatic Detection of Hard Exudates in Diabetic Retinopathy Using Morphological Segmentation and Fuzzy Logic

Retinal image analysis is an essential step in the diagnosis of various eye diseases. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is globally the primary cause of visual impairment and blindness in diabetic patients. Early diagnosis through regular screening and timely treatment has proven beneficial in preventing visual impairment and blindness. In this paper we have proposed a novel approach to automatically d...

Nonproliferative retinopathy in diabetes type 2. Initial stages and characterization of phenotypes.

This review addresses the initial stages of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy in diabetes type 2. The natural history of the initial lesions occurring in the diabetic retina has particular relevance for our understanding and management of diabetic retinal disease, one of the major causes of vision loss in the western world. Diabetic retinal lesions are still reversible at this stage opening...

Automated detection of fundus photographic red lesions in diabetic retinopathy.

PURPOSE To compare a fundus image-analysis algorithm for automated detection of hemorrhages and microaneurysms with visual detection of retinopathy in patients with diabetes. METHODS Four hundred fundus photographs (35-mm color transparencies) were obtained in 200 eyes of 100 patients with diabetes who were randomly selected from the Welsh Community Diabetic Retinopathy Study. A gold standard...
